Lieutenant Colonel George Washington was known as the man that could not be killed in battle at the young age of 23. This painting depicts a battle of Monongahela in which General Braddock was in command and was beat badly by the French Canadians and Indians. Braddock was killed and nearly 1,000 of his 1,459 men, but George Washington was miraculously saved. Two of Washington’s horses were shot out from underneath him and several bullet holes were found in his coat. The enemy chief said even his best men could not hit this young leader who saved the lives of many soldiers that day. Though this event was tragic, it proved to be a miracle for Washington and the many others who would have lost theirs had he not taken control.
This event provided General Washington great insights into how the British fought and great respect from his local Americans.
My respect for George Washington grows each time I hear another story about him
